Filmography : He made his film debut with the 1982 film Swami Dada in which he was introduced by Dev Anand, although he had a bit-role in the 1973 hit 'Heera Panna'. After Swami Dada, his subsequent movie was Hero directed by Subhash Ghai in which Jackie played the main lead. This film was a huge hit and made him a star overnight. He was then often paired with another leading actor Anil Kapoor during the 1980s in films such as Karma (1986), Ram Lakhan (1989) and Parinda (1989) which were all huge box-office successes. Even though he had success mostly in supporting roles, Jackie did gain recognition from audiences as well as critics for his performances. He won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Parinda in 1990. Some of his famous leading roles came in Angaar (1992) where he plays a youth, frustrated with crime and corruption, who takes on a violent campaign against the system; and Gardish (1993) where his portrayal of a common man taking on the criminal elements in society is considered his best work. His other memorable roles include "Ravi Mathur", one of the three protagonists who take on a crime lord in Tridev (1989), "Ram Sinha" a cop in Khalnayak (1993), the freedom fighter "Shubhankar" in 1942: A Love Story (1994), "Raj Kamal" a famous actor in Rangeela (1995), _ and "Chunnilal" in the film Devdas (2002). He was recently applauded for his performance in the Bengali film Antar Mahal (2005). In 2006 he had supporting roles in the hit comedy films Apna Sapna Money Money and Bhagam Bhag.
